Principal's Corner

Dear EEMS Community,

Welcome to the 2013-14 school year. Every year is a new beginning and every student, staff member, and parent has the chance to make improvements over the year before. While everyone’s area of improvement will vary, here are some ideas about what that might look like:

For students:
- making the honor all three trimesters or maybe making it for the first time ever
- improving your NWEA scores so you are above the 50th percentile or maybe even
above the 90th percentile. Your target will depend on your starting point
- cutting your absences and tardies by at least half of what they were last year
- making several new friends
- joining a team or a club for the first time
- scoring for your team or playing a solo in band
- earning more Falcon Pride cards than you did last year

For staff:
- planning lessons for our new ELA and math programs with a colleague
- learning how to use the curriculum mapping program or teaching a colleague how to use
it
- helping your most challenging student take ownership of his/her work
- taking on or helping out with an after school sport or club
- working with other teachers in the RSU to make the RSU better
- connecting with every student in your room
- making more parent contacts than last year

For parents:
- getting my child to school on time and more consistently than last year
- setting aside time every night for homework and nightly reading
- meeting with my teachers at conference time and at any other time a meeting needs to
be held to help my child
- supporting my child if they want to be on a team or club
- taking part in the vote to either remain in the RSU or to withdraw from the RSU
- scheduling family trips during school vacations, not during school time

For me, providing more avenues for teachers to help students meet learning goals is a priority. Another is to improve the attendance records of students who miss way too many days.

If we all choose a couple of goal areas and work hard to meet them, we are in for a very good year. Thanks for your involvement in making it just that.

Sincerely,

Mr. Newett
Principal
